according to my diary the UMAT is on this wednesday, so good luck to everyone doing it!

i ended up freaking out that i would never get a place (and didn't want to spend $150 to learn this) so i didn't get around to putting in my application. i might apply again later on down the road, but if i don't have the confidence i'm not really going to make it anyway.

but i hope to see you fresh-faced students tagging along and looking apprehensive around the wards next year! ;)

cheers thx for the wish of luck..

Re yur test .. what the heck - it's only 150 bucks as a gamble
(im sure most peeps here have had a much worse loss at the casino or pokies) .
.. at least with the test gamble your odds can be looked at as 50:50 .. you either get a high enough result, or you dont..... the winning bonus is much better than a "special feature" lol and even losing you get to have gambled in a nice airconditioned environment with clean smoke free air and no lingering smell of too much beer and vomit in the bathrooms ... it's gamblings finest

ANyhow ... luck wished to all else who are participating today ....

Remember
pencils / pacers
Sharpner
Erasers
Ticket
Ticket filled in on back (with id type and signature)
Photo ID
Plenty of time to get there
BREATHE

good luck

So it did happen today! Has the afternoon section finished or are you guys the morning one? I did mine in the morning last year. Is it still at that conference centre in Glebe?

Yeah, there must've been about a thousand, now that I think about it....but we were all checking our IDs a thousand times beforehand just to make sure, so no-one was particularly observing the numbers, and then when we did pass through successfully, everyone was going to the toilet multiple times beforehand as though their bladders were just gonna give way unpredictably during the exam.

I was in the hall at street level, I remember--there were some upstairs, and some down in the basement, particularly for the afternoon session.

I agree .. there wasnt enough time for section 1 (too much reading) and 3 (plain old obscure lol). I found there to be was far too much time for the quick to do section 2 though. Funnily enough the time allowance would have been perfect had they allowed us to just work on the exam start to finish instead of splitting each section up.

- at least there is next year
or is there another one of these things this year ?????

In either case before next rolls around I am definatley doing one of thos prep courses simply to increase speed.

Anyhow, Does anyone know when we actually get the results for this thing back ? (or if we get them back quicker if we call up?)

Anyhow I hope the rest of you all did well & that i'll see you the year after next at UNSW, UWS, or Newcastle doing MBBS or BMed. :)

Cheers

Probably they knew that the exam would've fitted perfectly with the exam timing if you had been allowed to do it from the start, and so many people would've done better than they did. This splitting up of sections is probably to separate out people, by testing how good their timing is. The same thing happened to me last year--ok for sections 1 and 2, but not enough time for section 3 :mad1: (though I know I'm terrible at looking for shapes)

hahahaha, what i did in the final 2 sections is i had about a minute or two to spare, and was fairly confident on my answers so skimmed over and then waited for the announcer to pick up his mike and say "pens down". I watched those people who were really immersed in a question that they almost had a heart attack he spoke up, it was hilarious. one girl ded set almost knocked her table over

well good to see everyone survived! :)

the registrars at work are in the middle of exam time, flying all over the country for their Advanced Trainee exams. one of the regs said she paid $3000 to do her practical part, plus travel to Ballarat - ouch. they're all exceptionally stressed, plus they're about to start their next rotation :(
it's so tough to pass too, one of them told me that only about 50% pass the written and practical parts so the chances of passing both first go aren't brilliant. they were great though, so i hope they pass! :)
