I'm finding it hard researching a question for my assignment:
-----
Outline how the inverse square law has been used, in the past and present, to asssist in scientific studies.
----
What would be some starting points?

Thanks!

classic one:

we know the apparent brightness and the distance of stars to us, the inverse square law allows us to tell how bright the stars really are.

Thank you, I've been able to find info on those.
Are there any others, perhaps particularly in the past (I know Isaac Newton used it)?
