How are placings in subjects determined? (1 Viewer)

The state rankings that are published in the papers, is what I mean. Is it based on the raw marks in the exam, or a student's overall hsc (after scaling/moderating etc). Thanks :)

I think its the percentage of band 6s out of all exams sat by school?

Don't think OP is talking about that. I think he's talking about state ranks.

I believe they're determined by overall HSC. However to get a state rank in most subjects - you need to do brilliantly both internally and externally - competition is fierce. :)

^ Yup, should've clarified it a bit more... I meant , like the top 10 students in a particular subject...

The girl in my school came second in Fillipino and she didn't do jack all year 9; she got Bands 3-4 in everything else I think). She only got it because she's Fillopino.
