I don't get the difference between the dotpoint in students learn to and the dotpoint in "students"? What should I focus on in each, and how would the questions on them be different?

Pretty much no difference, they're asking for the same things. Essentially just learn:

1 - When a demand for a certain resource arises, it begins to deplete and become more expensive resulting in the need for an alternative
2 - An example where this has occurred, stating the alternative (eg- synthetic fertilisers to replace those fertilisers made from guano and salt petre due to them dwindling in supply)
3 - The impact as a result of the production of the alternative (enough food for population, explosives, cleaning agents etc)
4 - Issues that may have arisen before the introduction of the synthetic alternative eg:

Issue 1 : without fertiliser we cant meet demand for food production, however industrial production of NH3 allowed synthetic fertilisers to be made, sustaining population with enough food
Issue 2: The more synthetic fertilisers made, the higher the industrial activity, increasing pollutants due to use of fuels - can be solved by using renewable energy

The questions won't be different they're essentially asking for the same thing
