LORD Mayor Campbell Newman has taken full control of Brisbane City Council and its $2.3 billion budget after voters listened to his personal appeal to elect his "can do team".

Cr Newman bowled over Labor's cricket star Greg Rowell in a long-predicted whitewash that cemented his position as Australia's most senior elected Liberal.

But he also secured a crushing victory in the majority of wards, gaining the power to force through his policies without the "Labor interference" he said was holding the city back.

Goodness, this thread is old. Maybe Brendan can use Campbell's jingle to save his leadership? However, Newman was doing a good job as Lord Mayor, it would be crazy if anyone else got elected but him.

A question for you sir. You say you are from Queensland. What are the chances of a merger between the Liberals and Nationals? Are you able to shed light on that? I know Springborg is for it, and I think McArdle is too?
