Sorry, don't understand why you need another line.

You can use broadband + your existing line for phone at the same time, there is no dialing up process in broadband. Cable doesn't use the phone line but ADSL does, at a higher frequency, so you are still able to use the phone at the same time.

exetel.com.au offers an economical solution for ADSL.
You can also use their cheap long distance, and pay line rental to Telstra which will be $26 approx. And you can still use Telstra's for STD cap.

From some posts at whirlpool.net.au it seems that the two best filters are
-> LSE / Li Shin
-> Telequip / Dynalink / Digitor (the last brand name is from Dick Smith)
With the second filter (Telequip / Dynalink / Digitor) you can plug in both phone and ADSL modem using only 1 wall socket.

Yeah you need to put a filter on your phone, I thought that came for free when I had iinet, can't remember.

I recommend iinet for ADSL. I currently have BigPond cable and can say that stay away from BigPond!!!!111 Bigpond is one hopeless ISP.

and for cable I heard that bigpond is the only (or is one of the few) ISP which is good.

why do you need a phone line for broardband / adsl? the beauty of them is that you can use your existing line!

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion.

My opinion is that bigpond sucks.

They are the only company that I can get cable with, some areas can only get cable with optus and some can get with both. So far I have heard that optus is much better than bigpond, I don't know if it is, but I do know bigpond has frequent downtimes and support sucks.

I never had a router problem with iinet, but I have plenty of router problems with bigpond, and so do many other people on whirlpool. My router is DLINK 704P

hey.. telstra now gives away.. 125 free calls if im not mistaken
BUT only if u choose 3 services with them
if you have two services, u only get 50 free calls
but anyway telstra's local call rate is more expensive than Optus, if you make lots of calls.

now its interesting... I have Optus dialup 5 hrs (priced at $10 a month)
But I get 100 free calls which worth $15
so.. Im getting $5 huahahaha...
and I have ADSL with another provider
and get to keep the optus email accounts

it looks like their normal cable modem but has a black antenna at the back...

i use a netgear somethingorother router for my bigpond cable internet connnection and it works great!

i live out of home.. tryin to minimise my line rental cost cos i dun use the fone much.. but i need it to call into work etc..

well the broadband part was irrelevant.. i realise that u dun need a fone line but i just need to find the lowest priced line rental w/o minimum spending
