ummm my d: and e: are like gone..
when i try to run them this comes up (see attached image)
i think i have the drives on a disk that came with my comp but i cant exactly use them because the drive doesnt work
i ran a couple of different virus scans and i had a couple of viruses on and they are gone.. but the drives still arent there (in the owners manual thing it said to check there arent any viruses)
am i basically screwed? i was thinkin i could reinstall windows but i cant exactly save my things to cd rom or even stick the windows disk in there.
is there anything i can do?

Go into the Device Manager to see if your missing drives (DVD and CD-ROM I'm guessing?) are still there and whether they are recognised as working. If they are, Windows might simply be hiding the drives.

Download Tweak UI from this page (its a link on the right). After you've installed it, run it, select "My Computer" from the list in the program, and then drives. Make sure your missing drives are checked.

Strange indeed. The question mark actually means the drive doesn't exist.

What you can try now is go back into the Device Manager, and delete your missing CD/DVD drives from the list (select them and press delete). When Windows reboots it will redetect and reinstall them and hopefully fix what might be causing the problem.

Generaly the cause of this is corrupted drivers, a reinstall is desired, however there could also be registry issues which i've known about, try this first:

Remove two registry keys and re-scan for PnP (or rebooted) after removing the device. The keys are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters".

How to do this, you ask?

Go to Start > Run, type in regedit, click on ok, now you see the path i specified?

HKEY_LOCAL... etc, that's a tree hierarchy path, and you navigate it as it's shown in the path, expanding on those little '+' signs and making your way through till you end up in that last bit with a bunch of inconceivable number, and look on the right and you should see what we call registry keys, look for the UpperFilters and LowerFilters, right click on them and delete them, then go back into device manager and remove the drives as well as you did before, and restart, and pray and say the our father wateva u want.

PS. I didn't write this! I don't know wtf is going on either
That worked and its back!! now to figure out how to get my printer (f drive) back.. im guessing i can just get it off the cd now

Gz on solving the problem :)

Re the floppy thing.. there are two ways - install a USB cd writer or USB portable disk drive or USB flash key, or connect it via crossover cable to another computer or laptop, and transfer all your files across that way. For future reference anyway :)

Are you on a network?
Seems like it.
How come your printer is on a separate drive? Maybe theres something wrond with your network? Dunno. This problem confuses me. Try checking if there is any connection errors with your cables inside your comp

hahahaha
i just looked down the back and the usb cable from my printer was unplugged.. my bros must have unplugged it when playing with my comp lol
i plugged it in and it works fine now
the printer is on a separate drive cuz its connected to the comp by a usb cable.. so it like automatically makes one (cuz its not just a printer.. its a copier scanner thingo too)
i dunno.. probably a more complicated explanation but thatll do for me

[edit] waahhhhhhhhh
i thought my problems were gone
*sigh

1. Start > Settings > Control Panel
2. "Switch too classic view" (if you already havent so)
3. double click on administrive tools
4. double click on Computer Management
5. View my attachement file and you'll see "Disk management selected", click on that
6. Maximise the whole screen and take a screenshot and post it here I'll then see from there whats wrong with it
