Currently, I have the old LG KU990 Viewty http://cdn.cbsi.com.au/story_media/339284431/lg-ku990-440x330_2.jpg.

It's getting a bit old and it's starting to malfunction, so I'm thinking of getting a new phone. I mainly use my phone for text messaging and calling. I don't really use Facebook on mobile.

However, I would very much like a phone that allows me to 'browse' texting conversations, whilst also having a very large texting memory capacity.

With this phone, I often have to delete text messages to free up memory for incoming ones, and this can get tiresome.

Which phone do you guys recommend, assuming no budget limit?

Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Newer one) both are great I've seen my friend use them.

Which of those two do you rekon? I was also considering the iPhone, but I don't like the whole 'Everything must be from apple, including software etc' kind of mentality.

Well Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the new iteration within the company's line of flagship phone. I would go with that one if you had to decide between the two.

Yeah, plus it's the first phone that uses Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and the reviews are pretty good glad I'm getting one!

That can't really be a selling point anymore though. I upgraded my Nexus S to ICS on the weekend so the software is essentially on par.

The "no memory card slot" for Galaxy Nexus is pretty shitty seeing as it has pretty good technical specs. Makes it less efficient for the quick data transfer from card to card or card to computer. I'd rather use the card than cable for transferring music, videos and photos.

If you were curious about the iPhone, purchasing an iPod or an iPad would be a good alternative.

I always carry my Nexus S and my iPod together, so I get the best of both worlds.

Galaxy Nexus at the moment really only has the edge with the OS over the S2, most of the hardware is pretty similar, with the S2 having a better screen and camera. And ICS looks like it will be coming to the S2 at the start of next year so either or.

That's just inefficient.

May as well get an iPhone (I have one, it's awesome)

I don't like running down batteries on an essential device and Android is a very interesting OS to play around with. Of course this is all dependent on how much you are willing to spend and which is purchased first. Similarly, if you don't have an interest in other OS, then my argument is useless.

I only went with the iPhone because of the convenience of it, fact it doesn't have a 'lag' since my experience with Android software was unpleasant thanks to the HTC desire. I am told the Galaxy SII handles everything really well and has a fantastic camera. Good camera was also a reason for my choice as well.

If you don't like to think or care about customising/hacking/modifying, then the iPhone is a sure bet. Apple has a great history of updating the iPhone over the years (even when it's a bit old) and there's always plenty of apps and things to run on it if you want. At the very least it makes a great iPod.

If you are intending to modify, willing to experiment, are good at being risk averse (i.e. not downloading viruses/dodgy apps), etc... then get the Android based phones. It gives you a lot more options and choices- e.g. which mail application you want to use, which launching/menu software you want, which widgets you want to run, how you want to lay out each and every element, etc. But the problem is it gives you so many options that unless you enjoy customising your life to the nth degree, will just be a waste of time and an inconvenience as you'll have more menu options than you want.

In all honesty, for 99% of people the iPhone is a good fit. I used to be into modifying my Symbian S60 devices and trying to run dodgy software but now that I actually use my phone as a key part of my life (i.e. work) as well as banking, all that really matters to me is that it works 100% of the time and I can depend on it. And that's why I use my iPhones.

ps. Avoid Blackberry. Only good thing about that is it supports legacy applications on my company's aging Lotus Notes infrastructure (e.g. Sametime).

(for the record, I own an iPhone 4S, 4 and a Blackberry Bold 9900)
