anyone else find 1984 boring? Im halfway through the book, and I legit hate it. Its is SO boring. I for the life of me cba reading it. If it wasnt for it being a prescribed text, I would have stopped reading it long ago.

Is it just me? any past/current students got some tips?

I read it in Year 8, I must have been the only person who liked it, I like Orwell's other books as well 😭

Kinda sad it's not the common module text my class is studying for next term (like one group of the cohort is going to do 1984, mine isn't ;-; )

Same to some other people here I read 1984 in like year 8/9 and found it interesting enough to read all the way through (skipping the manifesto chapter though). As far as prescribed texts for HSC goes I think 1984 is one of the better ones (both to read and write essays on).

omg I have the orange penguin books copy of 1984 and when I saw the font shrink when I got to the manifesto my heart sunk, it was actually torture to get through

I still haven't read the manifesto bit and have no intention of doing so

orwell is a little bastard, who was a socialist who was anti-socialist and snitched on all his friends to the government.
1984 is a dumb, nothing book. though, I did enjoy 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' as a representation of the monotonous, capitalistic life he lived in.
(not against socialism in any way, shape or form. just orwell was a terrible, hypocritical one)

oh yeah, i heard about orwell's list. while i still like 1984 and i do believe it's still relevant today, i find it interesting that not a lot of people know about it (he was anti-authoritarian, definitely, but not a very good socialist as you said)

i honestly wish nesa would prescribe orwell's other works (burmese days and homage to catalonia are personal favourites). 1984 is nice and i like it but i think it's one of his more 'weaker' ones
