just for laughs...haha my friend got a tattoo of a Japanese character some tattoo book told her meant "cherish" - she thought she was way cool, wearing skanky clothes to show people and everyday bringing up some story that relates to it like, "this reminds me of when I got my tattoo..."
Anyways, we had Japanese exchange students, a big group of them, and they saw her tattoo and burst out laughing...
turns out the character actually said "shed".

^ lol yeah, that reminds me of something i heard on 2dayFM last year....

some girl who got this tattoo of a chinese character, that she THOUGHT said "strength, courage" (or something along the lines of that), so she went around for aaages showing it off, til one day she met a friend of a friend's, who was chinese... she eyed her tattoo, looked at her funny and asked, "why the fuck do you have the word "beef" tattooed on your arm?"

Kanji tattoos are almost as clichd as tattoos in general, but nothing beats the one I saw at Blacktown a few years ago. It was "fat".
