Hello. Firstly, i can't seem to find the Business Strategy and Economic Management specialisation in here...is it because its not a specialisation at all? All the other BCom majors seem to be on there.

Also, does anyone here actually do that major? Or know what it involves? I'm worried that it's something that sounds fancy but won't be easily employable.

Thanks for any forthcoming help. =)

i remember reading about that major :D it came in a little green booklet... and if you look through the courses it really is a fancy way to say 'economics and stuff' but lets see if its online... bingo!

ohh it does look fancy as well as sounding so :D anyways, honestly they make it out to be for management with economics knowledge... i cant find the same info as my magical green booklet i saw at open day all those years ago i.e. one and a bit. but does anyone know where to or can they find the list of courses required for the major? itd be interesting to see what they are and from which schools

if i hazarded a guess and you were worried about employment id honestly say it looks similar to a double major in accounting and economics. but lets see if someone can find subjects needed first :)

but the link above should answer q's about where it leads, or is meant to anyways :)

Thank you for that! Now i know what the hell it is :p

I think this is the stuff i do if i do this major as part of mine Combined degree. Could you look through it and tell me what it's like? Is it really like a double major in accounting and eco mashed into 1? :p

Also, is that link what i should be using for me degree? I don't get this whole choosing subjects/courses thing. Do i just use that program or do i make my own?

Lastly, does the BS&EM major look more maths orientated or more non-maths orientated? I was thinking of doing Finance but while im good at maths, i dunt particularly enjoy it as much as say english and humanities type stuff. Furthermore, it seems to me that the BS&EM major would complement my law degree better than finance?

What do you think =/

Firstly, are your planning to practice law, or work in business industry ?

I would say that the fins/law and acct/law combo is the most popular, and i think that BS/EM seems to suit a finance major better. Then again i haven't done any law subjects :nods:

Right now, go in busines industry though it could be eihter by the time i graduate.

I'm just wondering whether i should do something different to acct and finance. After all, my premier strengths in HSC lay in englishy subjects though my maths wasnt too shabby either.

So you are suggesting it's better as a BS/Em/Finance rather than as a BS/EM major/Law?

Yeh i do think Fins and BS/EM suit each other - i really want to drop acct and pick up econometrics (which can be studied under BS/EM).

Obviously if you already got comm/law, and would like to head either into the business or law industry, i wouldn't forsake the law degree to do a fins and bs/em double major.

From what i think, a law degree is quite powerful in financial institutions (altho alot of the legal work would be behind the scenes) as it would make you rare compared to the full on quant. pro's, and from the law grads who go off and practice law. ;)

Haha yeah i understand what you're saying.

What would you suggest:

BS/EM/Law or fianance/law or something/law?

if i want something with a) strong career opportunities (i.e. high employment possibility) and b) broad career opportunities (not doing one thing forever, espicially calculating numbers)

I know you can't tell for sure but i'd like to hear your opinion anyway.

msn me dude.

I'd personally do fins/law because i know its quite a valuable combo in the financial field.

Just a bit about BS/EM, i found it quite interesting when we touched on game theory and bus. strat. in micro-economics, so i would imagine, and looking at the amount of economic "theory" subjects you would have to enjoy abstract concepts and taking a new perspective of thinking (its hard to explain the nature of studying uni econ).
The thing with BS/EM is that it doesnt appear very mathy for you - hence why i personally would prefer to do the econometrics major...but this again, really sits well with finance or financial economics.

I think at the end of the day, no matter what combo a) there are strong career prospects. We both know that finance has excellent broad career prospects - but i dunno, perhaps BS/EM and law have an "untapped" demand market ...thats something you will find out, or really have to decide once you get into 2nd year when you "lock in" your majors. :)
