Hello my dears!

Moving forward can be a very trying task, particularly when you're doing it all alone and hearing wonder stories about people who *gulp* have already completely finished their major work by now, and are working on their 4th draft of their Reflection Statement (STAY CALM! That example is fictional - fictional I tell you!). It is so much easier if you have friendly encouragement on the side.

Progress itself is so, so, so important. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much - all that does matter is that you *are* moving forward, and will continue to do so (we can increase the forward momentum as you go along - take everything one step at a time. :) ).

How about this:

Everyone currently struggling with their major work writes an entry in here to show how far they've progressed today. Mind you, I would like to keep the mood positive with emphasis on progress. Please only write what you have done, and if you haven't done anything yet... do so, so you can write it up! :D

Also - we already have threads for "light conversation". I would really really like to keep this thread focused on progress. Whilst some encouragement and congratulations is fine, idle chatter will be deleted.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

(first post)
Sat 9th July - Did 500 words today, getting towards the end of first full draft. Yay!

(new post)
Sun 10th July - Wrote up another 200 words. Still struggling with the stupid last bit that's fully not working, but am 200 words further than yesterday ;)

(new post)
Mon 11th July - YAY!!! Finished first full draft. Brain currently dead, off chocolate ice cream spoon yum.

You may write whatever you like in the commentary - such as total word count, or total reworked word count (if you're up to that) etc etc.

And now my ducks, write on, and the best of luck to you!

Lynn

Just a couple more guidelines for posting here:

-You may make a separate post for each piece of progress. Use your common sense. I do not mean that you can post eight times in a row because you have done eight things. Just do one post for all of them.
-You may comment on the progress of other users, however this should be constructive or encouraging.
-Questions about the major work or light chatter must be kept to other threads.
-I will be watching this thread carefully, and will delete anything that isn't necessary or helpful.

Good luck with your major works, and I hope to see lots of progress.

Dear thread,

Today i got a teacher to read over and edit my MW. I think i might like to kill her now. I have to write scene 11 all over again :( Oh well, i really hope that tortoise and the hare story is true.

Edit: I spent at least 2 hours trying to make the scenes fit together and finally managed to get most things worked out...

I fixed my ending a little bit, it didn't seem powerful enough. However, now i have way too many words. I decided to use bold text for stuff that i'd change. And so...pretty much everything is bold atm...

Wednesday 13th July -

I feel happy with myself today. I managed to pull off 200 words for a scene that has had be stumped for a long time and wrote a journal entry explaining what I'd done and how it works in the story as a whole.

damnation and Tez0r - since Justin has gone to bed, this thread is for progress please - progress! Please edit your above posts and write down what you have worked on in your major work today - the above posts are examples of commentary. :)

EDIT: You've worked hard, and that's what counts. :) If you spend time thinking about it now, you won't have to do it next time, and thus you have covered some ground (theoretically, anyway ;) )

I am eagerly awaiting my teacher to email back my first draft. She hated my initial concept and basically tore it to shreds in front of my face. The anticipation is the worstttt.

Don't let discouragement get in the way of your motivation. Try to feel proud about how much you have already done, not worrying so much about the number of words you have left. That can be really debilitating and daunting.

july 13th:

today I have changed my major work concept and have written 143 words with my computer screen off. Why? Because Sean Connery said so.
I also got inspired by a pair of Indiah Mynah birds fighting over a piece of glad wrap on my way to the video store today which reinforced the sense of futility my mw is lacking [in structure]

I don't have any progress to report today. But I promise I'll do two hundred words sometimes today. See, now I have to do it, because I wouldn't want to look silly in front of all you complete strangers now, would I?

But I thought some people might find this helpful-
http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/

Its a progress meter- only in terms of word count, but its something at least. You can put them on a personal website or blog. Or in this thread.

Here's mine-
<table border='0' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='5'><tr><td><table border='0' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0'><tr><td><img src='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/pel_br.gif' width='6' height='22' border='0'><a href='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter'><img src='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/pk_br.gif' width='58' height='22' border='0' alt='Zokutou word meter'></a><img src='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/pc_br.gif' width='4' height='22' border='0'><a href='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter'><img src='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/pr.gif' width='42' height='22' border='0' alt='Zokutou word meter'></a><img src='http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter/per.gif' width='6' height='22' border='0'></td></tr><tr><td><div align='center'><b>4,682</b> / 8,000<br>(58.0%)</div></td></tr></table></td></tr></table>

I completed my major work this morning. It is my 4th draft, but easily the most complete, and most unlikely to require rewriting than any of my previous drafts. I'm on a real high about this and am very proud of myself.

wrote 600 words this morning, and it's gone to one of my mums ext 2 english teacher/marker friends for feed-back.

progress is good.

Today I worked on editing my work more. I have started to change my introduction because it wasn't really saying what I wanted it to say. I also read Television Culture by John Fiske AGAIN and found some bits where I could incorporate Fiske's ideas. It helped me clarify what I was doing because the last time I read the book I was just starting and now in editing, I was using it more to clarify the ideas I have in my MW (if that makes sense) :)

ouch. Today I re-wrote a 500-word section that I felt was weak, in the process increasing it to 700 words. I really should stop doing that, because as FINISHING the draft is my primary concern at the moment, I feel as though I've made no progress by editing. I'm almost halfway to the minimum word count, but only a third to the max. I plan on writing at least another 500 words today, and finishing the draft by next Tuesday, to show my teacher for feedback. Unfortunately, as being way too laid back is my nature, I'm suffering in this course.

Today.

Went through with gold ol’ red pen, and did an intial edit. I’m trying to get motivated to go through and put all the changes in the computer, but I’m feeling very meh. I’m glad I’m making some progress however; I’m way ahead of everyone else in my class.

I find the whole going through with a red pen method very useful, if you're in a critical mood. It worked fabulously for me and I'd reccomend it to everyone

PROGRESS- Got feed-back today from ext 2 teacher/marker today. suprised to get back so quickly (few hours). At first I was a little defensive, as I always am with criticism. I'm probably going to be in a good mood tonight for re-tackling the work with some good criticism influencing me.

PROGRESS:

Report - I have summarised my plot requisites in as detailed a manner I am capable and have placed them in little floating boxes at points in my draft, I have also written 3 paragraphs this morning.

Intent - I intend to have a full draft by end of today, and will take a massive chainsaw tommorow for editing. That is if I dont kill the construction workers next door first for their absurd singing of pop songs, and constant use of loud power tools while I am major working.

*salutes Captain Lynn and Captain Justin *

good luck with everything and to everyone else. i finished my draft like two days ago, the feeling is so good - like this massive thing has been lifeted off your shoulders. Best of luck. And yeah, my neighbours killed my life to every morning is the same CD playing LOUD...really annoying.

I finished editing yesterday - but someone brought it to my attention that im just a few words down, like my word count is somewhere around 3100 - does it really matter?

last_chance are you doing the poetry medium? Because i'm pretty sure there is no actual "word limit" on it so to speak.

there is a general word limit of 5000 (with a maximum of 1500 words for the reflection statement) therefore it is sort of an unofficial word limit of 3500.

i'm sorry, my progress is relatively slow, i have a total of 3150 words in 19 poems. at present i am attempting to compose perhaps one or two more works with an intention of clarifying my main concept. The past two days i have attempted to assimilate myself into the state in which i can compose works, and i have perhaps written 50 words of a new work.

yeah im writting in the poetry medium. Black_man 3500 as the word limit sounds familiar because i remeber the limit for the reflection statement is 1500 words. Anyone started their reflection statements, or has everyone been adding to their reflection statements as they go along, because i started mine the other day and im trying to concerntrate really hard as it i a very important part of the actual mark.
