Well lately my marks havent been the greatest in Adv english, and well its the start of year 12 work for me..
I recently had a chat with the teacher and she told me that i would probably benefit more by moving down to standard as i would have achieved the rank of 6th in standard instead of the 39th out of 40 in Adv.
Well this is rather a issue to me and i intend to work a lot harder from this Disapointing mark..
I was just wondering what the pro's and cons are of standard vs Adv English, sorry if this question has been answered before but im looking more for opinions and facts eh.
Say i got 80% in the hsc for standard or 60% in adv, which would scale better? or achieve the higher mark.
Thanks in advance.

Yes you should drop it if you are unmotivated (hahaha like me) and think that you will not be able to improve over the course of yr12.

No you should not drop it if you honestly think you can do better with your marks....

So which is it?? After a yr of advanced and now the hsc, I'm ok with it... we didn't have the option of standard (gotta love the selective high)...

I guess doing the Area of study you have a little time to decide before starting the modules. If what your teacher says is accurate, it is probably better to do standard. Dont be influenced too much by what people say about scaling for standard and advanced english

Well lets see i got 56% in my adv english test at the end of year 11, and well that got me into the 39th out of 40 in adv english and well i would be 6th in standard.
I just wonder if its worth it to stay or go, like i can Try harder maybe get up into the low 80's in future tests, and well my motivation is going to be better eh.
Thnx for the replies, im just wandering how much different the scaling is if i were to get 80% in standard english compared to 80% in adv.

i think you should stay, i mean, if you're honestly worried about you rank, then obviuosly you will work for it. I mean, there is nothing wrong with staying in advanced, its just that the standard of work expected is higher. You cannot bludge nor breeze through advanced and expect a good mark. You might want to get a tutor who will help you, ask your teacher what you're not doing that the top kids are doing. In terms of "scaling", you shouldnt really look at it individually how it scales. You're better off staying with advanced because most unis see standard english as not sufficient enough for entry, so look out for that.
