ok people....i really sucked at binomial probability before the exam, so when it was almost half of q6 i flipped....except that it was nice of them to put in a show question for (i)....cause i got that!! YAY
question:.....for 18points in (ii) was it 0.7901^18?
and for (iii) could you do 1 - 18C17*(0.7901)^17*(1-0.7901) - (0.7901)^18

where 18C17 is nCr thingy????
i fully made it up? but it sorta sounds right? Right??

to find the length of the shortest chord i said x had to be a minimum, and solved the derivative of the equation above (part i) to zero.
dont know if thats right or not but it seemed to make sense at the time, cos it followed on

i think i got roughly for (ii) between 40 and 56 or something, and then got 49 or so for (iii)....but as i said, just really made it up!

im not sure if im right, but i made the discriminant of the quadratic equal zero, so l^2-48=0 so l = 6.9

Yeh the radius was 0.1km or 100m
How was 7 b) ii) and iii) done?
I assumed that ii) and iii) true and continued with iv) and v)

yay, i also 0.1km for the radius, i had to do it twice because i wasn't sure

for that smallest chord, i also got L^2=48, so i got 6.9, i done it in the last few minutes when i was going back over the paper

Instead of agreeing that its 0.1, do you think one of you could post HOW you got the answer?

find PT using pythagoras theorm. ie PT^2 =450^2 + 2000^2

tan @/2 = r /PT

where @ is the angle
i did my calculations in metres, so i got an anwer of 102.6m
hope it helps!
