You will have to ask your lecturers if they are allowed. But I have never used them, cause most lecturers put the lectures up on webct.

Lecturers use the lecture notes as a guide - but because they are experienced in the field that they are teaching, they will add their own knowledge into the lecture.

ofcourse webct is free. Your lecturers and tutors will rely heavily upon it.

Webct will not start working until until about the 24th or something ... or when uni starts.

Attend lectures, it will help you greatly. If you just read the notes and not listen to what the lecturer says you will more than likely not understand it.

It should also be noted that not all lecturers use webct and taking notes down in lectures is still a good idea.

Basically, if i missed out taking the notes down; the webct will recover it?

Yes, webct has all the notes which lecturers use. Although, in the first lesson, be sure to ask if they use webct or not.

Generally you are allowed to tape lecturers. You need a good mic and make sure your phone doesn't interfere with them. No, not all lecturers read notes, many will have notes, however a record of everything they say is better.

Some don't lol. But usually its the problem of the student not engaging with the readings. Some lecturers can be different or have different methods of teaching. You get used to it.

You will be silly as not to record anything from a lecturer unless everything they say is on webct (hardly). Notes are one thing, but sometimes a lecturer will only show diagrams or may add something not on his/her notes. Most notes are in powerpoint, so print them BEFORE a lecture in the 'handout' format with three slides to a page and this will give you ruled lines to jot notes next to each slide.

One thing people should avoid doing is copying everything down off a slide, when they know its going up on webct, it only means you are wasting time and occupying yourself taking down notes you can retrieve later, and missing out on the notes that are not up but said.

When taking notes down during lectures.... do the lecturers give you enough time to write things down, say when, if they put up overheads ? or is it the lecturers just keep going on with their teaching and you're expected to keep up with the lecture, writing stuff down at the same time ? (do i make sense...)

My experience with lecturers is that they ask if everyone has finished, especially if its a diagram - however, most of my lectures only have less than 100 people in them. They will give you enough time. But the important thing is not to copy everything, but just get the main points of the slide. You can fill the rest in later from webct.

Depends on subjects. Some of my lecturers didn't put the lecture up until after the lecture had taken place - they did this so we would turn up to the lectures.
