For this topic, do we need to know about Line feeds, carriage returns...etc...and know how to use them in algorithms?

If so, can u pls explain the difference between Line feeds and carriage returns?
Are there any other terms we need to know?

Thanks a lot!!

any control paramters that will be asked in the exam will be given to you in the question. So i dont think you need to know what any are specifically.

Carriage returns (CR) and line feeds (LF) are reminant of the days of manual typewriters.

As you typed, the typewriter would shift the paper sideways so the head would print a character on a new space each time.

When the type writer reached the end of the line (width of the paper), usually seen in movies when the typewriter rings a bell, the typist needed to

1) Scroll the piece of paper down one line (line feed)
2) Push the paper holder back to the start of the line (carriage return)

Thus from that, the end of a line is know as a carriage return line feed: CRLF. This is the "newline" character used in Windows filesystems. Unix file systems just use a line feed.
