hi guys...

it has come to my attention that clarification needs to be derived on the time and length of our major works.... for this reason here are the following syllabus extracts which i strongly suggest you read from the document which this was derived from - the English Stage 6 Syllabus available from this link :

http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/english_syl.pdf

anyway, here is what you need to know:

Scripts Radio, Film, Television and Drama
Students must develop a script of a complete work for the medium of radio, film, television or drama. The intended performance time for the script must be 2030 minutes. A Reflection Statement must also be submitted with the work.
Presentation
The script must be typed with double spacing onto A4 size paper.
Scriptwriting conventions appropriate to the medium should be followed.
Font should be size 12, Arial or Times New Roman.
Each page should be numbered.
A cover sheet should be included which states the centre number and candidate
number and the title of the work(s).

for Speeches:

Speeches
Students must present an audio cassette tape or compact disc of a speech or
speeches. The speech or combination of speeches should have a playing time of
15-20 minutes. The tape or compact disc may include music and/or sound effects,
which will not be included in the running time. These effects will be noted for their
contribution to the text but the assessment emphasis will be on the substance of the
speech and the delivery. The audience for the speech must be specified.
The student must also submit a print copy of the speech or speeches.
A Reflection Statement must also be submitted with the work.
The student presenting the Major Work should be the principal performer, sole writer
and sole director/producer.

and audible.
The written copy of the speech(es) must be typed with double spacing onto A4 size
paper.

Each page should be numbered.
A cover sheet should be included which states the centre number and candidate
number and the title of the work(s).
The audio tape should be cued to the beginning of the work.
Titles and credits on the audio must not identify the student, students or the school
except by examination number and/or centre number.
All appropriated or non-original material should be acknowledged as an addendum
to the tape or compact disc.

and for Radio Dramas:

Radio Drama
Students must present an audio cassette tape or compact disc of a complete radio
drama. The drama should have a playing time of 10-15 minutes. The tape or
compact disc may include music and/or sound effects, which will not be included in
the running time.

We know the time limit. Everyone is simply disagreeing on what one minute is.
Our very experienced 4u teacher says formatted (double spaced, 12 point ariel or times new roman), 30 minutes is 30 pages... don't know what that is unformatted, cause I've been formatting it as I go cause I'm suicidal.

see i don't know. normal spaced, i've been told that one page is one minute - like Josies 4U teacher says.

but double spaced? that would be like 30 seconds right? so i don't know.

currently mine is about 12 minutes and 16 pages ... go figure.

I've always thought 1 page of finished, fully formatted script (including directions etc.) was around 1.5 minutes... but I think the best bet would be just getting people to act it out. The only worry I have is that in the marker's notes from last year it said that many scripts were too long...
