everyone should watch out. Alot of people are mistakened and are using The Big Sleep 1946 version... but the version on the board of studies is the 1945 directors cut. This is the right one.

yeah there is a big difference in certain scenes, dialogue etc. make sure you do the right one because if you refer to a scene from the wrong one in the exam you'll lose marks fo sho.

yeah, we are studying it right now. The 1946 version was edited and added to to accentuate the romance element, hence the detective element of the film is compromised. Although it seems like not much has changed, it really makes the whole film different when you look at the big picture

I checked the Board of Studies site and the English Prescriptions for 2001-2003 has "Hawks, Howard, The Big Sleep, Warner, 1946" and the English Prescriptions for 2004-2007 has "Hawks, Howard, The Big Sleep - Director's Cut, Warner, 1945" . . . So I guess it IS the 1945 version we have to study this year?

But what I don't understand is WHY they would change it from the 1946 version to the 1945 version . . . Anyone?
