Hey everyone i used to have kazaa and then i deleted it about 5-6 months ago but i am still getting annoying pop ups so i went to add/remove programs and i still have a thing called deal helper which i believe is the source from where the ads are coming from..so i went to delete it and a message came up something like deal helper is an ad supported product ......and all other ad supported software must be removed first" something along those lines i deleted kazaa ages ago properly but what other ad supported software could they be reffering to?

thanks for your help

A lot of programs like this are made so that they're difficult to remove. A quick google suggests that rather than using uninstall from add/remove programs, you'll have more luck using a spyware removal tool.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Visiting that address you can find a program called Ad-Aware. If you install this, let it update the definitions, then run a scan, hopefully this should resolve the issue. There's a free version for personal use and a professional edition, the person use one should be fine for your purposes :)

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Failing the above, this URL you can get a program called Spybot-S&D. It's similar to Ad-Aware, but often the two find different things to each other. If running Ad-Aware doesn't help, then this should.

After you install one of these (Or both, it doesn't hurt), and after you've resolved the issue, you might find that running each of them at least once a week or so helps to ensure that your computer is kept free of ad/spy/crapware like deal helper :)

Good luck with it, and post again if you need any more help :)
Edit: Grammar is hard

Get Adaware and do a complete system scan, and then run a scan with SpyBot.

That should be a good start to your removal of the problem =)

Any of the mirrors should be fine, so just pick at random or whatever, shouldn't make a difference at all :)

You're fine to just choose to run the file if you don't want to keep a copy of the installer. What I do is keep a copy of everything I install in a seperate folder, so that if anything needs reinstalling I've got a copy of the file right there.

Depending on whether or not you have enough space for this, or if you'd rather just download it again if you ever need it, you can choose to keep it or just run it respectively :)

After you installed Adaware, remember to update it first.

It depends on the size of your drive and how filled up it is :)

And if that still doesnt work:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Download that. Save it to a folder, and run hijackthis.exe. *Scan* It should bring up a screen of stuff. Now it should have a save log button, click that and save the log (it should be in the same place you have hijack this. Then post it up on here for us, and we'll see if there is any little critters.

I sugget you run a virus scan first as well, then follow the other things, Ad-Aware + spybot, and then Hijackthis as a last resort.
