Cops have a 10% discretion rate. So for 60km/h roads, the error rate is allowed at 66km/h. So at 100km/h speed limit, it's 110km/h.

Also, you say you may have been clocked by cops on the highway? If it's mobile police, they'd have to pull you over on the spot or its uneffective.

it gets worse the more you speed.
My friend got done for driving 134km/hr in a 90 zone. 6 month suspension + a hefty fine (i couldn't remember what it was, somewhere near the 600 dollar mark though)

lol my mate got caught doing 155 in a 110 zone, got fined $1500 and lost his licence for 6 months, then when he got his licence back, he reregistered his car, and then he lost his licence for another 3 months because of the points that came with the fine.

so moral of the story is dont get caught speeding

Well if ur speedo said u were doing 120, u were going 115 at best, probably even less. cops can only book u if u r doin 7 kays over the limit (fixed speed cameras can only book u if ur 15 kay over), so it would be close.
That's totally untrue.

You can get done by a fixed speed camera under the 'Less than 10km/h over the limit' which comes when the mail you the fine. It's a $77 fine plus 3 demerits (or 1 demerit if in the ACT).

This is because Australian design standards allow for a 10% variance in accuracy in speedometers. However, most car manufacturers ensure that is variance is on the slower side (and usually far less than 10%), ie. if it reads 80 you are probably doing anything between 75 and 80 km/h.

This also varies slightly if you have bald tyres (which are illegal anyway) or have changed wheel sizes, even within the allowable limits.
