Hi
Wanted to know how we answer this question.

"at the heart of representation are acts of deliberate selection and emphasis". Do you the texts you have studies demonstrate this in relation to 'powerplay'?

the text is antony and cleopatra

anyone know how to answer it?

"at the heart of representation are acts of deliberate selection and emphasis"

I did this as a past paper a while back... Basically you deconstruct and reinterpret the question.

Firstly, this is selection and emphasis of the composer on certain characters, events etc.

Selection can define perspective (think Philo, Enobarbus, the common man) and attitude, the selection of events (for instance reported action). Furthermore, Shakespeare selects Shakespearean Tragedy and all its conventions. Also we use an appropriate selection of language to emphasise certain facets of character.

Basically cover how Shakespeare has deliberately utilised a judicious selection of textual form, perspective, language, themes, etc etc in order to emphasise certain aspects of the text. It's a slightly daunting question but yeh you can make it easy.
