Hey guys so i thought only 1 person can acheive a mark and i heard around 50 people got like 99.95 atar. I don't understand how this thing work, since its a rank then does it mean those 50 people who got 99.95 are all 1st in the state? And all their subjects aligned together makes them all first?

It means that they're in the best performing 0.05% of those doing the HSC, no?

An ATAR number is a *group rank* of 0.05% of the state cohort, which for NSW happens to be around 45-50 students.

They could do in the way each rank is 1 student but ATAR would look like 99.999, 96.374 etc. Too tedious

They were in the top 0.05% of their year 7 cohort.

And all their subjects aligned together makes them all first?
What does this mean?
