Hmm, good question... I don't think so, sorry. :(

Though here are a few excerpts from some documents that I have hard copies of -

...
The performance of the 3 unit students as a group on the common 2 unit/3 unit examination determines their pattern of marks in the additional course. The marks of the 3 unit students on the additional course are adjusted so that as a group, these marks have the same mean, standard deviation and distribution shape as these students achieved on the common course.
...
The pattern of marks of the group of 3 unit students on the additional 3 unit paper is made to coincide with the performance of this 3 unit group on the 2 unit common paper. This is done by using a process called equipercentile mapping.
...
The marks of students in a 3 unit additional course are scaled according to the performance of these students on the common paper. That is, they are given the same mean, standard deviation and distribution shape they achieved on the common paper.
...

There's not really much more to it than that. Hope it helps. :)

Do you mind if I print this, and take it to my english head teacher sometime this week? So I can show her that someone (though in 2001) DIDN'T have advanced english counted?
Go for it. :)

And-- how did you come to do philosophy in yr 12? Was it with a uni? (Envious am I.)
Yeah - it's delivered by UNE, but it's for the HSC. See www.distinction.nsw.edu.au.

you'd still have to accel in your studies,
completing the hsc one year (or more) ahead of your cohort.

e.g. completing 2u maths in year 11, or year 10 for some students and getting a great mark.

i wanted to do philos. but didn't get a band 6 for maths last year, so eh! :)

Band E3 in Extension 2 would probably be deemed higher than band 5 in the 2u course... but either way, I think you need to have accelerated at the top level to be eligible (i.e. taken any/all extension courses).

It's the top band in extension courses; they range from E1 to E4 instead of 1 to 6.
