Hi, Dai

Don't drop Physics, because you will be needing it more than Engineering Studies.
How are you going in Maths Ext1? You certainly don't absoutely need ext1, drop down to 2U and stick with it.

In yr12 Engineering gets pretty hard so, if you think you won't do good, drop it.

You are stupid, you are in yr 12 yet know what you need for engineering, why do degree at all? Just rock up to graduation.

Dude.... Please, If you dont know what your talking about. dont give advice.

HE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS EXTENSION 1 MATHS.

you'll have to work very very hard if you havent done extension 1 maths.
They should really have "Ext 2 preferred" on all engineering course descriptions.

Physics for HSC IS EXTREMELY CRAP, if anything it will dumb you down so much for uni that it will be a liability.
Ive never done Engineering studies but anything could be better than Physics.

Also Even if you dont go well in Ext Maths, i still recommend you do it, Trust me Its extremely helpful

thanks! dai

If you are planning to do ANY degree that has the courses MATH 1A or MATH 1B you better keep ext 1, because it is the absolute minimum. First week in 1A we blast through complex numbers (4unit topic) and move on in week 3 or 4.

You will not survive unless you are proficient in ext 1

Listen to this guy rather than that lost 2008er because WE have experienced engineering first-hand.
A friend did engineering studies and to him (mats1101) intro to materials engineering and (cven1300) engineering mechanics is like familiar stuff to him.

Few things you need to consider before joining up ADFA...

1) Which service will you be going for? IE army, navy or RAAF? In your service of choice, which job will you be aiming at? IE Pilot for RAAF or logistics officer for army and etc?

2) the Return of Service Obligation - your initial minimum period of service should be around 7 to 15 years, depending on which job you are going for. This means you will be spending that much time in the military after you graduate. The military is actually a lifestyle rather than a profession.

3) Are you medically and physically fit for a military career? Are you ready to be posted overseas to serve in unstable areas, eg. with Operation Catalyst in Iraq?

4) Are you a leader? Do you think you have the qualities for an officer? Cadets graduate from ADFA to be future military officers, and during your recruitment process they will be looking for officer qualities in you, and I can tell you its really tough.

5) The recruitment process - its a really long process, and you might not make through the whole thing. My own recruitment process took more than 7 months, so it's best if you start registering early. Don't wait till late, or you'll have everything stuck together during your HSC.

These are just few things of a huge list that you need to consider before making the decision, and also, every year people from all over the country go for ADFA, and theres only around 350 spots in the academy.(more specific, 160 for Army, 120 for RAAF and like 60 for Navy, although navy spots are never filled.) It is very competitive, so it will be a smart move to have a few back up plans if you unfortunately fail the recruitment process. Untill then, good luck!

just keep in mind you can do up to 3 officer selection boards, one for each service. but doing it this way the second and third board will think they arent as important to you.

Hi there - my boyfriend is at ADFA studying the bachelor of technology (aviation) degree, studying to be a pilot in the RAAF. adfa is great because its so small, so you get so much out of the tutors/lecturers (biggest lecture he has is like 100). also no HECS, and the people there are lovely.
dont listen to anyone who bags out adfa - as they clearly do not know anyone there.
what coupdegrave sai before me is very very relevant - you need to consider the service, as some as harder to get into than others, and what specialisation you woul like to head towards. also depends on the type o lifestyle you want when there - obviously army has the least relaxed. its a very challening process to go through. feel free to PM me if you have any further questions about ADFA! :)
xx
