I am just wondering...

around what percentage of students in NSW get band 6 in Physics?

Does that mean a mark > 92/100?

Ah. Am I right in saying that your moderated mark is the average of your moderated assessment and your exam mark?

^ Yes, but a subject is only called a band 6 based on your performance in the final exam (See the UAC Scaling report):

Imagine 2 physics students both with a final mark of 90:

Exam Mark: Moderated Assessment Mark: Band:
91---------------89----------------------------------6
89---------------91----------------------------------5

It makes no difference to your UAI, as both got 90 as their final mark however.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that they are both considered band six. However, i'm not entirely sure.

Hey, thanks for the offer. Just wondering:

• What was your raw trial mark and do you think it was HSC exam standard/difficulty? I got 87/100 for mine, which seemed the same difficulty as the official exam papers and I'm wondering if that means I'm good enough for a band 6.
• What was your final overall mark for physics on your HSC certificate?

Good. Thanks for that I was thinking it wouldn't make sense otherwise. Someone at school was saying it went off the exam mark because the scaling report said "HSC mark of 90". I realise now it meant overall, not "HSC exam mark of 90". I see how he misread that, and apparently so did I.

Don't suppose the board of studies release data on what raw mark was moderated to 90/100 [band 6] for a given year? I've been told it is usually around 85% but obviously depends on the difficulty and candidature.

they don't release raw marks and if you want yours you have to pay for it. 20 bucks i believe, but it's normally 80-85 raw to get a band 6.

Yeah I've read all about that in the past. I believe it worked until a couple of years ago, when people paid and got nothing in return. Supposedly they could legally demand the raw marks but no one really cared that much. 80-85? Nice.

So where does the moderation of our school based assessment marks come in?

Like, say for example that in my trial exam for Physics I got 80/100, but that was rank 1 - and then I get say 92/100 for HSC, will my assessment mark be scaled up to 92?

Confuseddd
