I want to do the IR course at ANU next year and I wanted to know what people with IR graduates do after they leave university. I know that I could become a diplomat but I heard from friends that it's almost impossible to get into DFAT and become a diplomat because of the competition and the rigid and long process. So do you guys have any idea as to what a uni leaver with a IR degree can do?

Anything that an arts graduate would be able to do (perhaps that was a little harsh). Anyway, if you're interested in the public service you'd be better off taking arts and then combining it with economics or something. The IR degree is just a specialisation which forces you to take certain subjects and do a language. People doing the IR degree don't get any unique subjects so personally I see little point in doing the BA (IR).

if youre doing arts(ir) or ir, you'll need honors to get into any public service job (dfat or otherwise) cos a straight arts or ir degree just doesnt cut it

Im a straight econ, and i got in to an APS job, but many friends with straight arts or ir (even with d-averages) didnt.
