Yeah I was as interested as you are, especially with the whole debate of whether electrons are particles or not. But once it started getting too detailed it began to bore the hell out of me. Lol I was good with force/motion got a B+ with like zero study for mid year exam.

I put ages into my mid year exam and recieved an A+. I put ages into my end of year exam too but I had that stupid specialist maths exam, which finished at around 5pm the night before, I ended up getting home at about 6:30pm and had no time to refine a few of my skills with physics, so I entered the exam basically having the right thought process, but, I made atleast 8 "CARELESS" mistakes and I got an A, which ultimately cost me my 40+ study score hopes (I got 39) and is something that has annoyed me to this day!
ooh! I'm doing Chemical ENgineering too!
But Im in second year doing first year chem subjects due to changing my major (Informatics 1 and 2, computer subjects that lead to a major in Software Engineering was just SHIT AS!)
I did INtro Microeconomics and Finance 1 as breadth last year.
Im doing Music Psychology this year as my final breadth.

back on the topic of breadth - there are endless options available. Just about all Arts subjects are offered as breadth, so lots and lots of first years take Global Politics or Australian Politics as breadth. It gives you a nice intro into how your political system works and the big issues in the international world today. There are also History subjects, English language, languages, Cinema studies, Classics, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Criminology, Archeology, Astronomy etc etc.
I am an Arts student, so my breadth had to be outside arts - I did Introductory Microeconomics and Introductory Macroeconomics from the Commerce faculty last year, absolutely loved them (didn't know anything about economics previously and hadn't done it in VCE) and now I am doing an Economics Major.
As someone mentioned before, if you just want a chillout subject, music offers African Drumming, Beginners Guitar etc etc which you basically pass just by turning up to 75% of the classes/rehearsals.
The only thing I would recommend is making sure you choose subjects which will allow you to do the ones you want in second and third year - if you just pick randomly in first year, you will get to later years and realise you don't have the prereqs to do the breadth you want. So if you know there is an area in which you want to do all your breadth subjects for your whole 3 years, make sure you know which subjects from that area you have to take in first year to allow you to take more in second and third year.
Have fun with breadth - it's a chance to try something new and like me, you might find something you really like!

Is it true that to major in chemical systems you only need to have studied first year chemistry and then the engineering faculty has subjects that are more chemical engineering based? I'm actually considering doing my first year chemistry during the summer and then during second year (first semester), if my interest in the field really grows.
At the moment chemical engineering is probably the form of engineering that interests me the most as I would love to do projects involved with chemical plants. The reason why I'm not doing first year chemistry is that majoring in physics, mathematical physics or mathematics, mechanical systems, electrical systems and statistics are still on my list of potential majors and if I did chemistry it would be solely so I could go into chemical engineering and there really isn't anything else (at the moment) interesting in the chemistry field (i.e. analytical chemistry - when we went on an excursion I saw a really depressed analytical chemist who complained of recieving a crap salary, whilst a chemical engineer who came into our school was talking about how she went overseas and made great money). When you took up Finance 1 (I would like to take the personal finance stream); how did you actually find it as a subject?

To major in chemical systems, along with first year chem, you have to take two awful subjects called Engineering Systems Design 1 and 2 and two maths,.

But yeah, after first year, the subjects are mainly chemical engineering based.
Finance 1 was actually quite interesting. Although some of the stuff did not make sense at first, it was something that I enjoyed. Textbook reading actually helped me understand the material .LOL. I liked learning about shares and bonds, and the different markets that were out there operating our financial system.

Dude, u sound so so much like me! lol In the HSC we go really indepth into these 3 areas, and its by far the most interesting concepts i have ever heard. Im crazy bout maths and physics lol I'll be doing the bachelor of engineering though, most likely, ive got a year ( deferring) to think about it.
Also, where is this breadth book u are talking about? i dont believe i have one, is there an online version of it? Im unsure what to take, but i imagine it will be economics, commerce based.. i also think that philosophy would be something i would consider.

Thats cool! I probably just got a low B+ for exam 1.
