CompSoc is the social society for IT students. This year is its 25th b'day and we're on of the top ten largest societies at UTS. (4th/5th i think) We're also one of the most active.

Any UTS Student can join CompSoc. We publicise our events by posters in building 10 and the union posterboards in the Tower cafeteria, through our mailing list, and our site www.compsoc.uts.edu.au (soon to be updated)

As for the INSTALLfest, we'll be offering MS Windows XP (at least SP1, hopefully SP2 will be released by then -i'm beta testing it now), Visual Studio .NET 2003 and SQL Server. (all academic licences under the FIT's MSDNAA agreement. therefore only current FIT student/staff members may participate in this event)

If you are interested in gaming, there is E.G.G (electronic gamers guild) they are very new, and have only had one event so far.

aside from the ball, the best event for compsoc this year will be our XBOX party.

Microsoft, our principal sponsor pays so we don't have to pay a cent for the following:

They pick up a busload of our members (60-70) and drive them to MS Australia HQ in north ryde. pickup will be somewhere around 4pm. at MS HQ we go to the XBOX gaming experience room, where you get to play up to 16 multiplayer games like halo/project gotham 2. we got to play on unreleased games and xbox live months before they were released when we had this event last semester of 2003. whilst there we get fat on a huge stack of pizza, and tanked on the free supplied alcohol, and return everyone by bus back to uni at around 9-9.30pm.
we had a VERY merry time last time we went. lol. it was funny though, cos we only had 45 people turn up. pretty pathetic considering it was FREE!. anyways, that'll be on again this year about half way through semester 1. i can't wait.

so um... yeah.

night all!
