China is not forcing communism down anyones throat and instead is slowly starting to move closer to democracy as its leaders have started paying more attention to local issues of its people. Eventually China will one day become a democracy after its economic development has spread to all its citizens much like Taiwan or Singapore.
What about Taiwan and the whole matter there? I really don't see why the Chinese government is so uptight over the matter. What is wrong with the commuinist government? I guess u've all forgotten about Tiannamen Square.

Umm, no, China is NOT moving closer to democracy. Just because their economy is experiencing major growth and development that is just because the government has loosened ECONOMIC controls on the nation, allowing more of a market economy to stream in, including outsourcing from Western nations. Please note, though, that the biggest dozen or so Chinese corporations are all government-operated. Mass private enterprise is not a realisation... yet. And never forget that political controls on the Chinese nation has changed at all despite all of its economic boom. The communist government remains as powerful as ever.

Anyway, economic development will be a much different situation in China, it will be more gradual. China is VERY different from Taiwan and Singapore.

No, ever heard of one country, two systems? Mainland China wants to reunify with Taiwan (historically part of China, the ruling KMT government was isolated into Taiwan after losing the civil war) as a special administrative region (SAR) therefore it would still have its own democratic local elections, it would not be communist much like HK SAR

Tiannamen Square was a one-off massive over-reaction back in 1989, I highly doubt it would ever happen again unless the CPC wants to totally destroy China's economy, the goodwill of the international community and piss off its citizens

And yes economic development will take a long time to filter to all levels of society in China due to the sheer size of population and country, but the point is that both Taiwan and Singapore are chinese societies which were ruled by dictatorships but finally changed into democracies after the economic development had reached all its citizens, and this is the eventual destiny of mainland China as well

Of course they do, they have the same right to vote for their representatives to the National Peoples Congress as the people of any other province in China.

lol supercharged, if you honestly think china wouldn't do it again you're blind. They don't want to lose their communist power & advantage so they're maintaining strict authoritarian controls over the people.

alien, it's not for certain that communism in china will fall..

you see every world war has been a scheme to set up new political ideologies and break old ones.

the first world war brought facism to the Germans and Communism to the Russians.

The 2nd rid of fascism and established the new world government, the United Nations (yes it is pretty much a government, and if you think clearly, it's also a totalitarian one too. it claims to help the world with it's human rights etc but doesn't every government claim to help the people?).

The 3rd world war (cold war) brought down communism (yes it did, China has free markets now) and seated the US firmly as the world police.

Now who's gonna call World War 4? A new power in China?

I have said this many times, and will say it again.

the political, social and economic system in China is not communist. communism is the highest stage of socialism. china is languishing in the initial stages of what it calls a 'socialism with chinese characteristics'. mixed economy, and while you can't go and make fun of the government a la the glass house, there are privately owned newspapers etc.
