Discuss how Christian teachings are applied to bioethics

I have so far defined bioethics and ethics.

Now, by the word APPLIED mean like through scriptures, natrual law etc.

Or is it like
Cloning = offence to human diginty? sort of way??


please help, its a question in my half yearlies

I guess it depends on your definitions of bioethics and ethics in a Christian context.

If you consider that Christian teaching is that God is God of all things and He is the one and only creator. He sustains and perpetuates. The entire Bible is very clear on where God stands in terms of what is allowable and what is sinful.

He made it very clear in His commandments that were further explained by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount that murder is against God's Law/Will. Thus anything that involves the taking of a human life is essentially against Christianity. Psalsm makes it clear that life begins at conception thus anything to do with experimentation on the foetus (eg foetal stem cell research) is unethical. Abortion is unethical (because it is murder of a life that began at conception).

Arguing that life begins at 20 weeks is a convenient secular definition that is not biblical.

Cloning - well that's playing around with the natural order of one man, one woman make a new life. And it certainly does bring into question IVF where multiple lives are brought into being but then only some are chosen to be implanted and the others are frozen or destroyed (or used for research).

If you keep to the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) then Christian teaching and bioethics is a no brainer and there is no need to get tied up in knots.

Not necessarily. Heaps of Christian fundies promote the death penalty, arguing that it doesn't "count" as murder. Thus, christians can quite easily interpret the bible in way that suit their own personal beliefs.
