How would you guys say Emma is transofrmed into Clueless?

- Aside from the more obvious things (contrasting settings, characters etc) is there a deeper meaning to the above statement - like the dramatic irony of knowing that Christian is gay?

they use similar techniques e.g. VOs and stuff.
as mentioned above the values are still kept to Austen's time even though many of them are reduced in the level of seriousness. the statement may imply that although its has transformed in the element of time the true values are still kept at heart.
with Heckerling adding Christian's character being gay shows the shifting in values and the difference in contemporary culture.
need more info just ask :)

the portrayal of themes and values i say would have to be the most important. HOW they are presented is the key factor in answering essay questions . i.e as dark secrets said, Cher's VO, but in Emma, there is a 3rd person omniscient narrator. Also, consider what the features of a novel are and contrast it to what a film has.
