What are the complex number functions on my calculator useful for? So far I've just been converting everything...

Anyway, any ideas how to know cos 5/12 pi is (root 3) - 1 /over/ 2(root 2).
Are there also some tricks to working out those answers?

Most calculators are only capable of converting complex numbers to mod-arg form.

I think that has something to do with the actual question, somehow coming to that conclusion by a different method thus being correct..

Care to give entire question?

I could be wrong though

calculators are generally a nono for complex numbers (unless you had one of sam's haxy calculators that could do complex equations x.x remember lotto? we were always messing around with that lol). it is typically faster to work out the answer by paper.

as for you r question, generally you would have lead up for it else itd be a nice question 8, the leadup usually makes it seem quite obvious how to work it out. i cant remeber the way to do those without proper leadup right now so cant provide u with a way to do it but without the lead up stuff those questions r a bitch
