I'm a first year doing the assignment and I've never been to a court before. I have a few questions:
1. Can I only enter the room when the session starts?
2. Am I allowed to go to a Supreme court?
3. What etiquette is required?
4. Do you think I should go with someone else if I don't know what to do?

Thanks

It's been a while since I have gone to a court, but here goes:

1) I think you can enter at any time, but it might depend on the court and type of proceeding. I went to a Local Court and I walked in during the middle of a case and it was fine.
2) You can go to any court you like including the High Court. However, some proceedings are off limits to the public (i.e. child custody cases, criminal proceedings for juveniles etc).
3) The level of etiquette depends on the court - generally the higher the court, the more formal you have to be (like, bowing to the judges etc). I would probably try to wear something smart irrespective of the court.
4) It can help to go with someone else from your cohort, just to help each other out and stuff.

Someone with a little more experience could probably offer something more detailed.

1. You can enter when it starts, during or is adjourned.
2. Yes you can enter the supreme court.
3. If the Magistrate/Judge is present at the time, you bow when you enter and also bow when you leave. If he/she stands up to enter or leave the room, you also stand up and bow to them. Mobile phones must be switched off. No recordings will be allowed.
4. Probs best to go with someone the first time you go until you are aware of what you are doing.
