hey all!!

i'm currently in yr 11, going on to yr 12 and have a few questions i need to ask.

I want to get into fashion designing when i finish school but dunno what uni is best for it. Firstly, i know dat i want to get into uni for sure. And i know there is a fashion designing course at UTS, but i was also considering Design at UNSW.

Would B Design at UNSW - COFA be better because it would allow be more opportunity and a wider variety of choices rather than just limiting my options to fashion. I have wanted to do the fashion course at UTS for ages but what if i dont find a job and end up on the dole? at least if i do B Design and fail in the fashion area, i can get into other areas of design right? But then again, B Design might be too broad and won't really help me if i wanted to do just fashion design.

I DON"T KNOW WAT TO DO! PLZ HELP!!
*confused*

hey dude.

yeh i put down design @ cofa next year tohugh i don't think i'll get in cos it's like >90 or something.

umm ... well my friend is doing fashion at UTS. yeh it's a really specific degree but if fashion is THE thing u wanna do, then uts id DEFINITELY the place to go. unless you're rich, then u should go to whitehouse institute of design, it's a private college but their fashion course is really good, but very expensive...at whitehouse, u can get transferred to spain/italy to do your degree there as well. and like i'm sure u know how prestigious the fashion biz is in europe...

but uts is still the best for fashion, after whitehouse...mostly cos it's actually the ONLY uni which does fashion specifically, lol. well in nsw anyway...

umm as for jobs, if you do anything in the area of arts it's gonna be pretty friggin hard. so i guess if money is a big concern for u i would think twice... but for me, money isn't too much of a bother and i'm really passionate about doing something in the arts area, so if you're really passionate about doing fashion or design, then it shouldn't matter because you'll be really motivated to find yourself work, start your own business, etc.

umm though i reckon that design at cofa would be the best bet...cos its still like really prestigious. and yeh, although it IS quite broad it's still not so broad that it's a useless degree.

basically u get to choose three (i think?) focuses of design u wanna speciailise in, last i remember i THINK it was applied/object design, textiles, environmental/spatial, ceramics, jewllery and graphics.

go to www.cofa.unsw.edu.au to double check on those...

but biascally u choose three of them as electives and u specialise in them, so if you're interested in more than one area of design, this would be a good course. and yeh obviously your job chances are maximised cos you've been educated on more than one design specialty..

so yeh good luck bubbi. hope that helped =)

Hey I applied at cofa and syd...
I was going to apply uts but the uai is like sooooooooooo high!
not sure if i want to do fashion, or interior or some other design course- but i tink u should keep in mind that once ur in uni, it'll be heaps easier for u to transfer courses or uni. So even if pick just a general fine arts course, they usually offer design stuff and perhaps u can think about transferring if u don't get the uai u want???
ooh and i want to go to uni too, and i know alot of ppl have a thing against tafe ( i do a bit too i guess) but LISA HO went to tafe and look at how suceessful she is now... she was "discovered" down in manly sellin bikinis that she had made...
there's a lot of options out there if u put ur mind to it and if it's what u really wanna do! ;)
