I read somewhere that it was and I'm just not sure if it is true.

Do you guys think it is?

Anyone that goes there?

I'd probably say it has the best international reputation (due to its research output) and that it's the best for some subjects (again, research intensive ones) but other unis beat it for other subjects.

You really can't generalise to that extent.

Generally Speaking your marks matter more than the Uni you attend.

You made an analogy. Did you go to high school or something?

define best. best in terms of teaching quality, research, course recognition, architecture, plumbing, the greenness of its grass, the cleanliness of its bathrooms?

+1

Apparently it's well known for the Asian Study Faculty, but all the faculties have been pretty good from my experience.

I go to ANU and it's great, the courses are interesting and the faculty is huge (recieves alot of government funding). If you have any questions visit http://community.boredofstudies.org/forumdisplay.php?f=587

People don't really want to move to Canberra.

It's called supply and demand - or haven't you learnt that yet?

The research side of ANU really, really distorts the ranking...

Yes ANU's high ranking has a lot of weighting on its research output.
I have yet to see a current ranking that doesn't put ANU as No.1 in Australia. Even the Melbourne Institute (Uni of Melbourne) puts ANU as =1st (with UMelb - funny that).
But ANU, like all other unis, does have particular strengths in different subject areas.

However, the most telling thing is that based on the Federal Government's ranking of teaching quality in universities, ANU has scored top bands in every subject area it teaches. It's on a government website somewhere - I've seen it before but I can't remember where.
