this is probably another dumb question, but could someone please help me write the equation for the salinity test involving silver nitrate, a water sample with salt (the test is for determining the amount of chloride) and potassium dichromate as the indicator in a titration?
thanks,
shannon

The precipitation reaction is Ag<sup>+</sup>(aq) + Cl<sup>-</sup>(aq) ---> AgCl(s)

The indicator is potassium chromate (not dichromate), which has a yellow solution. At the end point, a red precipitate of silver chromate is formed:

2Ag<sup>+</sup>(aq) + CrO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup>(aq) ---> Ag<sub?2</sub>CrO<sub>4</sub>(s)
