I think thats completely true. I payed for my laptop and car, and I know that I appreciate them so much more than my friends who's parents who have bought these items for them. It has also taught me a hell of a lot about saving and budgeting, but I think that this is also contributed to by my parents habits in this area.

But on topic, my parents pay for my school fees, they're around $4000 a year but I have a 50% scholarship so thats only $2000. They also pay for camps and stuff. I've never done tutoring or music lessons, but when I've done out of school sport they've payed for that. My youth allowance, while I receive it, goes straight to my parents except for about $20 which helps pay for petrol. Basic living expenses though, they pay for as well.

My schooling is actually pretty cheap.

School fees are about 3K a year.
and our textbooks are given to us.
and I don't do anything outside of school. so yeah.

but next year in 08, I have to get tutored for 4/5 of my subjects in time for HSC. So i'm sure thats gonna cost a ton.
As well as revision guides.

you need tutoring in 4/5 subjects? you probably should've left in year 10...especially with your parents already forking out for school fees; you would have hoped your school teachers could teach you well enough for that amount!

and yeah, you guys don't seem to have any qualms about spending so much money which isn't yours...

Yeah i reckon we are pretty lame in that sense. Damn, I hardly spent any money other than school activites, excursions, books etc. BUT recently had to go tutoring for maths which is like $65/2hr everyweek. after the HSCs i might go for a few driving lessons too. LOL. I do save a lot more coz unlike some people I dont HAVE to get that $180 pants and $300 sunnies.....i rather wear $20-30.

thats just me

-Cricket $10 a week (Summer)

-Basketball $15 a week (this will rise to around $50 when youth league starts) + about $100 in annual registration fees

-Soccer $6 a week (winter) + $70 annual registration fee

-Tennis $13.50 a week

-Piano $20 a week (although i will probably drop this as i no longer wish to do exams)

-My folks have offered to pay for tutoring and i think I will probably take them up on it so lets factor in around another $50 a week

-they are paying for my last 2 driving lessons and my P's test so like $135

-School fee's $200 (or there abouts, and they're optional lol)

-Yr 12 Jersey $55

-Clothes & Shoes about $1500 (give or take) annually

-They will pay for my vehicle expenses e.g. fuel, rego etc. (but this is on the condition that i pick up my sister from school and drop her off to where ever she needs to be, because they'd normally have to do this anyway its not really a major expenditure plus they both work night shift so its mostly about the convenience.) I'll factor in about $500 for the fuel i use for personal use.

-school stationary and similar school related items $150 a year

-and depending upon what chores i do around the house and how much school work i do my folks give me an allowance of around $30 for personal use

thats probably around 8000 a year 0__0 sheesh

umm they did pay for private schooling [with a 75% scholarship though]. but now it's just average public school fees. had to pay for my own uniforms. they pay for textbooks though.
they lent me money for my car and help with petrol - my car doesn't use much.
touch footy, $50 per comp, there are about four, five a year.
going away for touch.
netball, if i end up playing.
i pay for my own trapeze lessons.
they pay for eng tutoring, 60 a week i think.
EDIT: i also get pocket money for being my mum's cleaning slave and babysitting my sisters. haha.

yeah, i'm spoilt.

Um. Public school so the fees are only $100-$150 per annum.
They pay for uniform as well - although I haven't had to buy uniform since my senior stuff at the start of Year 11, as I've stopped growing.

They paid for ballet for the twelve years I did it, and for piano for the six years I learned from a private teacher. I just learn from mum now so cost = $0. :D

As for this year... Year 12 is so expensive. Have to pay for jersey = $50 or $60; have to get a prefect blazer = $140, but the school pays half; History camp in July = $450; birthday presents = God knows since it's up to them what they get me; money for youth retreats = maybe $150 all up; new clothes = $?; random outing spending money; etc, etc, etc.

And my immensely lame half-my-age weekly pocket money - soon to go up to $8.50 in eleven days.

I feel kind of bad for making them spend so much money on me, but then again they won't actually let me get a job.

When I was in school they paid the $100 voluntary school fees.

Now Im at uni so I pay for everything. They let me live rent free in my holidays though.

It's so good not having to answer to your parents about anything and be independent (for the most part).

Private School - $20,000 per annum for my current school (Yr 11 now, Started in Yr 5 sans 6 months)
School Books - $300p/a
Uniform - $1250 (one off)
Sailing - $800
Horse Riding - $2000p/a
Irish Dancing - $1500p/a
Hip Hop - $1500p/a
Vocals - $1750p/a
Paris Exchange 2009 - $8000

As my Dad says, he could have bought three new Mercedes E-Classes with the amount of school fees and crap he pays for me. I know, most people would perceive me as spoilt, but my parents want to give me the opportunity to do everything I can and I make the most of it. I'm grateful for it in the end :D
