$\int (x-1)(x+1)^{11} dx \\ = \int x(x+1)^{11}-(x+1)^{11} dx \\ = \int [(x+1)-1](x+1)^{11}-(x+1)^{11} dx \\ = \int (x+1)^{12}-2(x+1)^{11} dx \\ = \frac{(x+1)^{13}}{13}-\frac{(x+1)^{12}}{6} +C$

^ You could have done it slightly faster by changing (x-1) to (x+1-2) in the opening line but still nice. I love these sort of questions.

Was in my 4U test. looks very simple at first but its not lol

$\int secx d(tanx)$

$= secxtanx - \int secx tan^2x dx$

$= secxtanx - \int (sec^2x - 1) secx dx$

$= secxtanx - \int sec^3x - secx dx$

$\therefore 2\int sec^3x dx = secxtanx + ln|secx + tanx|$

$\int sec^3x dx = \frac{1}{2}(secxtanx + ln|secx + tanx|) + c$

I think u can also do it by letting u = x+1 =)

If we distribute:
$-\frac{1}{x^3}\left(2 + \frac{1}{x^2 - 1}\right) = -\frac{2}{x^3} - \frac{1}{x^3(x^2 - 1)}$

Can we use this Identity to integrate?

$\int \left( f(x) + g(x) \right) dx = \int f(x) dx + \int g(x) dx$

If it says use a given substitution in MX2 do we have to use it? Do we get 0 if we don't?
