I want to use this song in my english trials for 'representation of truth'. its a funny song about how real estate ads bend the truth to sell houses. I've typed the lyrics into google but i didn't get any hits. If you know this song could you please tell me the name and who sings it. Thanks :)
Lyrics are below
If you don’t speak fluent real estate you haven’t got a prayer. It’s a particular vernacular so buyers all beware. The classifieds might bend the truth to give their pitch some weight. So we’ve written this beginners guide to buying real estate.

Its just minutes from the city – It’s on a freeway exit ramp
There’s no problem here with white ants – They don’t like rising damp
It’s great for entertaining – There’s a bottle shop next door
With brand new fitted carpets – on a badly fitting floor
It’s a quaint free standing terrace – Its developing a lean
It’s the great Australian nightmare! It’s a renovators dream

The neighbours all are friendly – They party every night.
No trouble here with barking dogs- They just sneak up and bite
Its an inner city penthouse – It’s a flat above a shop
The busses run right past the door – Yeah they just don’t bloody stop
The yard is bright and cheerful – Yeah it’s concrete painted green
It’s a rolled gold stinker! It’s a renovators dream.

Its all been newly painted – Yellow green and mauve
It’s a bachelors apartment – It’s a garage with a stove
There’s ample off street parking – But you’ll need a four wheel drive
The garden is low maintenance – There’s nothing left alive.
There’s an attic and a basement – And nothing in-between.
It’s a pig and a poke, what a joke! A renovators dream.

It’s got federation features – Means it’s got an outside loo
Look, this area will develop – There’s a highway coming through
There are glimpses of the harbour – provided your ten foot high
It’s the investment of a lifetime – You’ll be paying till you die.
The vendor’s just moved interstate – His getaway was clean
It’s a turkey it’s a lemon! It’s a renovators dream.

When the agent says position, there’s a very strong suspicion, that it’s due for demolition – We better just go fishing. It’s the great Australian nightmare! It’s a renovators dream.

There’s possible in-law accommodation here. - What? Ohh the chook house, you mean?
There’s a genuine reason for selling. – Desperation I shouldn’t wonder

I suppose you could always fabricate a realistic-sounding source... it may be a reference from an obscure play by an even more obscure Australian writer..

I chucked it in a few search engines and nothing came up. If I were you, obscure play it is. :)

Yeah i guess i'll just make up a name, if we can't find who did it i doubt the marker will be able to. That is a bit ironic though isn't it :D

The title is most likely, 'Renovators dream'.

No idea about the artist.

I remember my EEII teacher once saying that when you aren't able to credit someone's work because you don't know the name of the writer/singer etc, you can name the title of the piece and say it's by an unknown artist. In your case it would be 'Renovators dream' by an Unknown artist.

I'm a tad late - but I have the artist for you. He is Jim Haynes, the album that song is on is called "It's nothing serious". He's an aussie comedy/country music author.

Other songs from him on this album include:

- I'll have chips (aussie anthem!)
- It's nothing serious (Sydney/Melbourne rivalry)
- Homebush Hero
- Since Cheryl went feral
- Don't call Wagga Wagga Wagga

I, too have been trying to get a hit on his songs - with absolutely no luck. Until, finally, today: http://www.jimhaynes.net/biography.html. However it's still difficult to find his older stuff - Renovator's Dream is over 10 years old.

He's not particularly well known - but he was in the Bunnings Warehouse ads a few years ago, which had the slogan "gee it's grouse at Hardwarehouse"

Hope I've been of some assistance.

how did you have all of the lyrics without the song or artist in the first place?
