if i didn't do physics during my hsc (this is a huge regret) should i forget doing engineering altogether. i would really like to do eng. at UTS, but will i be able to pick up the required knowledge along the way?

i did maths ext 1, chem, ipt, eng stand, and RE2 during hsc.

i know physics is a big part of engineering.. but is it directly related to hsc work? should i just forget bout engineering and go for a science degree. im pretty good with maths, although my results dont reflect that (didnt study much this year) and very interested in engineering.

i got a uai of 78.95 and a RET score of 86.

well first year physics for uts eng is kinda hard especially if you're lazy i did physics at school, but i was lazy there and still lazy at uni and i got 50 for physical modelling first sem

you can always do the physics bridging course!! and if you still think that you're not up to scratch you can take the 'slow paced version' of physics ... which splits the 6cp subject over two semesters and you do 3cp each semester.

Ok I did Physics HSC, the bridging course and the actual first year subject. So what I tell you is valid


The physics that you will do is the core subjects of the hsc physics plus some extra stuff. So if you haven't done HSC physics you will be ok but till will harder.

This is why it's suggested that you do the bridging course to bring you up to date to what you will study.

The subject isn't that hard if you ask me, you just need to do some study. As a general rule (at least from what I have seen) engineering students are bludgers and most manage to pass the stuff (any subject) they are given.

You can enroll for the bridging course when ever you want even on the day it's on. I wasn't gonna do the bridging course but on the day during the enrollment I decided I'll enroll and do it. It costs $60.

Which engineering courses are you talking about?

Maths is free. Physics cost $60.

At least it was like that at the start of the year

UTS physics has nothing to do with HSC physics to start with

a mate of mine doin civil did like 2u maths, stand english, history and those non mathematical subjects and made it thru phys with a pass.

I can post some lecture notes and he can judge for himself.


Newtons laws, mechnics, Scalers, Vectors, projectile, waves, magnetism, light etc. are all done in high school.

And he'll be doing that with some extra added bullshit.

yeh im in the same boat as the person who initiated this conversation. i plan on doing the bridging course however i was wondering how come it's only a one day affair?! at all the other unis they're like 2 weeks? thats pretty whack

hmmm yeah i dunno if the course being one day is a bad or good thing. maybe they will give us quick explanations on everything and leave us to do the learning at home with work sheets.

has anyone been to the physics bridging course? if so how was it?

p.s. do u think the uai cutoff for mechanical eng. will go above 79? it was 74 last year.

Maths goes for 2 weeks and it's free. You are also given a booklet.

Physics is a one day thing. They give you a booklet as well and go briefly through the topics you will do.
ie. tell you a little about mechanics, waves etc.
