I don't see the options as being unreasonable. While our condolences go out to those who do have cancer, it would be unfair for the other students for the assessment criteria to be changed.

The university offered an option of a deferred exam or DNF. Either you have completed the assessment (deferred exam), or you get DNF because you haven't completed the requirements but did not fail (DNF is discontinued not counted as fail).

The university only reweigh minor results (eg missing out on 10% quiz). It never estimate marks based on student's past performance. While the coordinator has the discretion of changing the weighting of assessments it's not a guaranteed result.

A) you are well enough to complete the course
b) you die
