Nobody ended up clearing this, so I might as well.

IT used to be SoCS, the School of Computer Science, within the Faculty of Science. It was bundled with the School of Mathematical Sciences, and hence it shared the subject codes starting with 3 (since, when you come down to it, there aren't many maths subjects, and back then there weren't many computer ones either). Now it's (pun not intended) broken off and become a faculty of its own, though the numbers are still shared.

So, to answer my own (implied) question, Computing for Maths (semester 2 science subject) isn't in IT and doesn't get me IT rights. Damn. :(
