Ok so I was just wondering if its acceptable to do a "&" instead of the word "and" in all the exams.

Probably a really stupid question I know, but I'm just making sure !

I'd say it probably isn't for most subjects.
Maybe in maths...

I personally wouldn't do it though. It's kind of like using abbreviations rather than the proper word :/

"and" doesn't take long to write either.

I was always told to do 'and', and that teachers would get pretty annoyed if you continuously used the ampersand.

+1

In formal writing or essays should not use & in lieu of "and"; for maths calculation, OK.

It's not.
I used it at the beginning of year 11 and got cut down.
Never again.
I sometimes slip up and use it in chem and bio but I don't think that's as bad as using it in essays and shit.

Re: Probably a really dumb question =/

LOL!! I'm totally in the habit of writing '&' as opposed to 'and'. In the trials I did this, and in one paragraph the teacher circled all of my &'s and there were literally just 8 circles all over it. It's annoying how they pay that much attention to that kind of detail, but I received little to no feedback on the content of my response. I will continue to write '&' just like I always have; it's habit, I can't change that now being so close to the exam.

Just write "and", most markers wont care but some might. Like slyhunter said, its not like "and" takes much longer to write then &.

I've read board of studies marked exemplar responses for all modules. 2 of them had '&' quite frequently throughout the paper.

this

using an & does not indicate a lack of sophistication in your ideas, + it's in exam conditions
