I just have an issue with the hydronium ion. I just want to know why does a hydrogen ion form a hydronium ion with a water molecule. For example from the equation:

H+(aq) + H2O(l) --> H3O+(aq)

Is it due to the electronegatvity between the oxygen and hydrogen ion or is it something else.

Please answer this question
Thanks

hydrogen ions that are dissolved in water form hydronium ions and you DO need to know about them cuz u need them in equations
i dno if theres a specific reason WHY they form, in short i think u just need to be aware of hydronium ions

Hydrogen Ion's are extremely reactive and react with water to make hydronium ions.

Hydronium ions may also be formed by water reacting with water which is called self-ionisation of water.

2H<sub>2</sub>O --> H<sub>3</sub>O<sup>+</sup> + OH<sup>-</sup>

It is an equilibrium reaction as well.
