I got the 2006 HSC advanced english question for an assessment task... the question is "to what extent has your personal response to the tragedy of King Lear been shaped by the enduring power of Shakespeare's characterization of King Lear". i have to refer to two extracts and i've chosen the love test and the storm scene. What i'm having trouble with is relating the storm scene to a marxist reading, if that makes sense. I need quotes and stuff from the storm scene that either support or challenge marxism. Please help!

for the storm scene, note the way Lear's sense of self is explicitly linked to his possessions

what he has, or rather what he does not have

in the storm scene, Shakespeare is attempting to externalise Lear's innerself

if Marxism is about 'things', and the storm scene shows Lear going mad having become dispossessed, what does this say to you about the link between 'things' and the self essentially?

just a thought!
