Why would they change it to 99.95? Its like saying "Um... lets give the UAI some weird name and lets just go over to the random number generator and see what number comes out... oh.. its printing now!... the new UAI... i mean STAMT... i mean ATAR... is 504.50! So does this mean everything is going to remain the same except the fact that the name isn't UAI and that you can't get a perfect 100 any more?

Essentially, yes.

If you want to get really technical about it - there is a small change to the School Certificate reference cohort used to convert percentiles based on scaled aggregates to the final ATAR - but most people aren't going to understand what that means, so just rest assured that it won't disadvantage you at all.

NSW is currently the only State to report ranks of 100.

The ranks in every other State max out at 99.95. (Except Queensland which uses a completely different system.)

In NSW, ranks of 99.975 or above are rounded up to 100, whereas in other States they're truncated to 99.95.

This meant that students with 100 in NSW could be wrongly perceived to have been ranked above students with 99.95 in other States.

That discrepancy is being removed.

It's actually not nearly as dramatic and exciting as it seems to be.

This is bullshit to me.
Hope they keep all the scaling of subjects the same. I don't know how scaling works in the other states, but I hope they adjust it to our system.
