This whole UAI and scaling concept is totally confusing me. I've read numerous posts on here and I've been told different stories so I don't really understand?

My friend got 99.1 last year (he went to a school where only 4 people got a decent UAI) and he said that trials and assessments don't count for much of your mark because the actual HSC exam is the most reliable in terms of seeing how you rank against everyone else.

Well anyway, my desired UAI is 88 - 90 and I'm not sure whether I'll get this or not and I kind of wanted to have an idea because I'm putting in my Uni preferences next week.. any help and advice would be greatful.

Here are some of my ranks/results in my subjects:

General Maths: averaging 80%, rank 4

Society & Culture: averaging 95%, rank 1

Adv. English: averaging 80%, rank 8

Drama: averaging 83%, rank 2

PD/H/PE: averaging 84%, rank 2

yes, as long as your school isn't really bad, you have a good shot
