why does ethanol have higher molar heat of combustion then methanol... and propanol have higher then ethanol??? is it cause of its number of carbon or something??

its to do with enthalpy, that is the amount of energy in the bonds. since propanol has the most amount of chemical bonds it requires the most amount of energy for them to be broken - hence more heat energy is released from the system once broken (remember energy can not be destroyed)

more specifically its due to the intermolecular forces, and bonding. there should be some info inside these forums......hope that gets u started
