should u always quote page numbers from novels in an extended response, in addition to the quotes themselves?
if not, in what "text forms" would u actually quote page numbers? e.g. it would seem strange to quote page numbers in a speech or a feature article, but it may impress the marker in an essay.

* and i always find it annoying to memorise page numbers

wow....not only do u not get marks, but they get deducted??....harsh.
for something like an essay, however, would it "impress" the marker? i.e. illustrate your knowledge of the text?

generally speaking, no - simply because they know (most being teachers themselves) that students are advised not to do this: so you end up looking like you are deliberately just trying to impress the marker, which doesnt go down all that well. it is better to try and "impress" the marker through a sophisticated thesis, choice of text and vocab.
