Hey guys we need to get our butts into gear about our university. UWS has cut HALF of the units we have to choose from and at least 8 COURSES are being cut at either a campus or throughtout all of UWS. ITs time to take action guys.
There is a rally on the 19th of August at 1pm in the front of Ward Library at Werrington South campus to present to the Vice Chancellor what we are feeling about these cuts. ANYONE who has recently caught a bus around the Penrith campuses will know how low UWS are going. Its not only John Howard's funding cuts but also UWS's poor administration. Get up and stand up for your rights because if you don't people like you and me will have to transfer unis before the end of our degree... making it longer and a royal pain in the butt.
Show everyone that Westies deserve a functioning education system too!!

Rallies are fine. Protest marches tend to get out of hand (just be thankful that the socialists and anarchists are unlikely to head out west :p)

I'll get out of your forum now.

i love anarchists except those who throw marbles under the police horses - and im sure they will be prepared to travel if you give them an invitation -----
I dont wnat to encourage voilence against uws etc ----------- but yeah if it happens it would liven up the atmosphere - its so dead there atleast there would be some excitement for a change.

PS - invite the abos they love a good protest/riot.

PSS - did u see the firecrackers explode on the police at redfern riots - maybe im immamture but that nearly made me pisss my pants.

I mean, I'm not saying that peaceful protesting is bad, but this is something that's already been decided - and who knows, it might actually turn out alright. Plus, it's not UWS's fault in that concept.

Hey guys,
i'm not a hippie or anything- and why should this be deleted????? Arent we allowed to say stuff like why should i have to travel to bankstown to finish my uni degree? Look I know the name i have and the msg sounded a bit stressed but i was mad coz no one really gives a crap whats happening. there was one lady at the rally i went to that day that sed she is an mum with two kids and she on a scholarship to do her degree- textbooks paid for and everything- and coz of the unit cuts and trying to fit timetable around looking after kids she is struggling to fit in a full study program. if she doesnt do the degree "full-time" credit points she has to pay ALL THE MONEY BACK!
I'm in primary ed. and our list of choices for electives have been cut back and back and there are w lot of us doing units we didnt want to do because we had to change to something they decided to teach. No one is going to get violent if last weeks rally is an indication- its just so we can hear what is actually happening.
if u really dont care about ur uni closing down and cancelling courses- from education to engineering then i really think that we are going to lose this battle.
Make a stink- its election year :)
please try
Sare
ps its not just "a bunch of students" the national student union are behind this as are some of the staff

i like ur enthusiasm dude --- or duddette or whatever u are.

is there going to be alot of chicks there? any azn ones?

At uts they made it voilent and then it made the news :) u go and march and no one will listen or even know it happened.

if you go and march etc..they wont listen because they dont care
they have the mentality
that ur at uws cos u cant go anywhere else and yeah..they have you by the balls...so they can do whatever they like.

thats my opinion anyways. integrate it with a anti iraq war rallly and invite the lebs from uws they might do some destruction :)

Well let's set things straight here!!!

Courses that waste time and money have been cut! The relevance of having every university teaching Chinese Herbal Medicine is not my idea of appropriating funds in an efficient manner. Some courses are best left to the other unis that may be better equiped - no point re-inventing the wheel.

As for cutting back on units, well I would rather funds be put into units with larger amounts of people, not 3-4 people who may have just randomly chose a unit to get their 240 credit points. If people feel they need to do a unit, there is always other ways of doing it, at other unis and the like.

Increase in fees isn't as bad as it seems. Our fees are pretty low, what I DON"T LIKE IS PAYING THE UNIONS A COMPULSORY FEE when they will mismanage it. I find it amazing they could not print a diary for students, yet there is enough money to publish political dogma on the University.

"TAKE ACTION" That's all we hear, isn't it? How many times have you recieved a pmaphlet? How many times are we told to believe that the left know all and that UWS and the Nelson review are wrong?

I believe more money should be put to Usyd and other unis, compared to ours, they are in a shocking condition, half the lecture theatres. So let's be real about the reviews.

Fellow students, I thought it would be a good idea to get a different side of the story. The problem with the left, is they look at the economy as a black box, something goes in, something must come out. Little do they know how that box operates. Its also amazing how a member of the Socialist Alliance on campus disagreed with me when I said there are limited resources in this world.

You wont have to transfer unis, just another left wing speculation. What our government is doing ought to be commended. They are trying to make our uni degrees valuable by not making them these things you find in a cereal box. They also recognise that us uni students don't make the majority of society, so let's stop the left greed and think realistically.

It is amazing how much they are paid to do what they do. If they at least provided a service to all worth while, I would argue in favour of a wage rise for them.

Plus, no person in their right mind can support UWS if their nickname is "UWSucks". To UWSucks, your policy and ground for protest 'sucks'. If you have geniune problem, then you should go to court or seek a review by a Government body such as the Ombudsman. Yet you prefer to whinge. DO IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S MONEY, not our union fees.
